What is Learning Workshop?

The goal of Learning Workshop is to promote success in the regular classroom by providing instruction that responds to a need to strengthen reading, writing and mathematical skills. We work on a variety of skills in a small group setting or through an in-class support model to meet the needs of each and every student. Students who receive Learning Workshop will receive additional instruction to learn skills and strategies within the general education program to help them reach their goals and success!

Check out the list below for additional information about learning workshop.

  • Learning Workshop is supplemental instruction in either Language Arts Literacy or Mathematics. Instruction and support are provided in the basic concepts and skills that students need in order to be successful in their classroom. However, it is not a replacement for reading, writing and math and students will never be pulled from those classes.
  • LW is scheduled during the school day, and typically lasts the entire school year. If the LW Instructor and classroom teacher feel that a student no longer needs Learning Workshop Instruction, they can be exited from the program after consulting with the child's parent or guardian.
  • Students will receive multiple contacts throughout the week
  • LW is an opportunity to build, and practice fundamental skills and to extend their learning.
  • LW is an opportunity to exercise student's learning muscles in a different environment (smaller cohort). This allows them to feel comfortable, confident and have fun!
  • Learning Workshop typically lasts for the entire school year. If the LW instructor and the classroom teacher feel that a student no longer needs LW instruction, they can be exited from the program after consulting with the child's parent or guardian.
  • Teachers may recommend students continue to receive LW the following year. However, a student will not automatically be enrolled in LW the following year. Student eligibility will be determined on a case-by-case basis.
